Register to our UNOC side event - Wednesday 11th June 2025

The Centre Scientifique de Monaco, in partnership with the Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, is pleased to invite you to an official side event organized during the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3).

This event will showcase sentinel species (umbrella, keystone, and iconic) alongside technological and methodological innovations for their study and long-term monitoring. Topics will include:
  1. Ongoing research on how sentinel species are responding to global upheavals,
  2. Their role in signalling ecosystem collapse or tipping points, and
  3. Assessments of the socio-economic impacts of ecosystem degradation, including effects on human health, as well as the benefits of protection, conservation, and restoration efforts on marine ecosystems.
The event will bring together researchers and experts from a wide range of backgrounds to strengthen marine conservation and accelerate solutions for sustainable ocean management.

These distinguished experts will offer presentations followed by a panel discussion involving additional scientists Céline Le Bohec (CSM/CNRS) and Alexander Venn (CSM) together with financial expert Nathalie Jaubert (BNP Paribas), fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaborative action.
